A Successful And Supportive Bipolar Marriage

By Charles Harris

Bipolar is a serious disorder, which needs to be treated in the right way. A bipolar marriage will really suffer when the couple don't work together. Someone who has this disorder will have a range of qualities that can be difficult to deal with. The spouse will battle with the fact that they tend to withdraw and become moody or irritable on another day.

The usual response is that you will be feeling alone and guilty, thinking as though you could be doing more. However, it is not fair to put yourself in this position. The average person does not know enough about the disorder in order to understand what their spouse is going through. In saying that, it is a good idea to find out more about the disorder.

Often, someone like this needs more compassion and understanding. They need someone to listen to them. However, they also need professional support. One needs to realize that you can't manage to do this on your own. You will end up burning out. You have to realize that your marriage shouldn't be based on simply giving every day. There is no joy in that.

You may also have met your partner before getting married, and realize that they have the disorder. At the time, this is easier to handle because you are living apart. However, when you get married there are so many other elements that become involved. It is not easy to take a break from one another. It is not easy to get your space. Marriage is more tricky because you now have to work together.

Often, the partner feels as if they are giving too much. It becomes all about the disorder, and they forget about the marriage. A person who is married to someone like this may be worried about their partner while they are out and about. It is important that they have a little freedom as well. They shouldn't be labelled as a carer. They are still the husband or the wife.

Bipolar disorder can be brought on at anytime of one's life. Sometimes one is diagnosed early on. It can become easier for the couple when the person is diagnose before they are married. Of course, there are still complications. However, there will be those that are diagnose a couple of years into the marriage which may be a lot more difficult to deal with.

Someone that you are married to may be experiencing certain symptoms only after a couple of years. Most of the time they are gradual. They will usually become sad with many racing thoughts going through the mind. They will often become impulsive where they will be reckless and irresponsible.

Sometimes this will only be noticed when a person attempts suicide. It is natural not to notice what is going on in your partner's life. It is also natural to blame yourself, but this is something one has to avoid doing because you have to realize that this has nothing to do with the family situation or the relationship.
